Employee Spotlight: Donnie Mead, Field Supervisor

What do you do at Gilbert Industries?

I'm a field supervisor.

What is a typical day for you like here at work?

I do permits, safety topic, get the guys lined up, go over what we’re going to be doing today, assign people to what they’re going to be doing, as far as welding sections out, gauging the process, etc.

How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?

14 years

What brought you here?

The Gilberts are really good people to work for. It’s a good company. They keep me good and busy.

What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?

Seeing progress and working with the people. New experiences.

What do you like most about working at Gilbert?

It’s the company. Jeremy, Josh, everyone gets along with each other and helps each other out.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Hunting and fishing and being with the kids.

What is your professional and educational background before Gilbert?

I welded straight out of high school for 3 years on aluminum gas tankers and then took my experience to Gilbert.

What is a particular project you are proud of and why?

Jim Beam- the Kentucky Plant. The project went really smooth, the tank looked really good, and the area was beautiful. We sat there and welded and watched people float down the river. It’s in a holler on an island with a private bridge that goes across the river. It’s actually the old Jim Beam plant where they age all the whiskey. They have little tracks where they roll them from one building to the next.  It’s a really neat looking place and definitely one to remember.

What are you most looking forward to over the next year?

Professionally: New projects and new experiences.

Personally: The new areas. I like to travel and see the new areas.
