Employee Spotlight: Tim Grant, Technical Processes & Continuous Improvement Manager

Tim Grant, Technical Processes & Continuous Improvement Manager

What do you do at Gilbert Industries?

I am responsible for Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing teams. I do my best to make sure these teams understand and are aligned with the Company’s goals and needs. It is also my goal to ensure each team member has what they need to be successful in their role.

What is a typical day for you like here at work?

I check my email and review my calendar first thing to get current status and see what tasks are due for the day. I touch base with my team members to see if anyone has issues or needs assistance. After this I work on any problems that have been identified or on improvement projects.

How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?

About 5 ½ years total.

What brought you here?

The company I was working for was closing, so I needed to make a change. A friend who worked at Gilbert invited me to meet with Josh, and I also had the opportunity to meet Jeff Custer and Jason Gayer. I was impressed by the people, liked the company, and saw an opportunity to contribute value.

What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?

Providing value to our customers by delivering a quality product on time.

What do you like most about working at Gilbert?

My team members. Here everyone is truly on the same team and genuinely wants each other to be successful.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Spending time with my family and traveling.

What is challenging about your job?

Always keeping the ball moving forwarded, always driving to make tomorrow even better than today.

What is your professional and educational background before Gilbert?

I earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla, now Missouri S&T. All of my professional career has been involved with the manufacturing of equipment, most of it custom. I have lead Engineering, Quality, and Operations groups.

What are you most looking forward to over the next year?

Professionally: Alleviate the current bottlenecks in our processes. Automate some of the overhead workload.

Personally: Continue working on being a better Husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Catch up on some home improvement items I have been putting off.
