What do you do here at Gilbert Industries and what is a typical day like for you?
I’m a welder/fabricator, so my days are usually a mix of welding, grinding, and fitting. Honestly, I do a little bit of everything depending on what’s needed that day. Since I’m on first shift, I roll in around 6 a.m. and clock out at 4:30 p.m. It’s steady work and keeps me moving all day.

How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?
I’ve been with Gilbert a couple of years now. Long enough to really get to know the crew and the flow of things, but it still feels fresh because there’s always something different going on.

What brought you here?
It’s close to home, which was a big plus. I also had a buddy that already worked here and he had nothing but good things to say. I started out doing work on the road, but eventually made my way into shop work.

What is your educational and professional background before working at Gilbert?
Pretty much everything I know is welding. I learned it young and stuck with it. Before Gilbert, I worked at some other local fab shops, so I came in with a good bit of hands-on experience. But I’ll say this — the people here at Gilbert make it a whole different level.

What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?
For me, it’s the atmosphere. We’ve got a good group of guys in the shop, and it makes the long days go by quicker when you’re working alongside people you actually like being around.

What do you like most about working at Gilbert?
Definitely the team, and there’s a lot of pride in the work we do.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Most of my time outside of work is all about family. I’ve got a wife and four kids — 5, 7, 10, and 13. And, I like to get out hunting and fishing when I can.

What’s a project that you’re particularly proud of?
I enjoy working on the smaller tanks. Many times they are more challenging because the steel is thinner. You’ve got to move faster and stay sharp.

What are you most looking forward to over the next year?
Professionally, just keeping at it and putting out solid work — more tanks shipped out the door that we can all be proud of. Personally, my family and I just sold our house, so I’m looking forward to hopefully buying a new one soon and getting settled in.
