Employee Spotlight: Rick Jones, Receiving

Rick Jones
What do you do at Gilbert Industries?
My main job is receiving, unloading trucks and checking in the material. I also do the consignment room and make the runs to pick up material.
How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?
13 years
What brought you here?
My son-in-law, probably! I was a lineman for 20 years and worked at Zenith for almost 20 years.
Then, the company I was working for cut out the line department, so the boys offered me a job here. I told them to offer me a job or I’d move in with them. So it was pretty quick!
What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?
Being caught up!
What would you consider your specialty?
Driving the forklift. I’ve done that for years.
What do you like most about working at Gilbert?
The people.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Fishing or hunting, but mostly fishing. I fish for bass mostly and do a few tournaments. Not as many as I'd like to though!
What is your professional and educational background before Gilbert?
I’ve done a little bit of everything. When I got out of school I started at Zenith. I milked for 5 years and then went to become a lineman.
In one word or phrase, how would you describe Gilbert?
Which Gilbert you talkin’ about?
What’s been your most memorable experience since joining Gilbert?
When I walked like 12 miles on the Valero job back and forth on the job site.
What are you most looking forward to over the next year?
In the long term I’m looking forward to retirement, that’ll probably in the next few years.
