Employee Spotlight: Reuben Parker

As a Quality Control Manager, what is a typical day like for you?
I handle all the inspection work, coordinate inspection work with customers and their inspectors, work with engineering on specs making sure whatever the design specs say happens to build the vessel. I go out on sites all the time to do inspections. I train a lot with the younger guys. I started out welding so I can do it all. I like helping the younger guys learn. I also go out and help field supervisors. I handle audits, joint review, national board, ASME, etc.
How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?
21 years.
What brought you here?
I was a little older than Josh in school but we were friends in school. I got a job at a local stainless steel manufacturer with Rick. We rode to work together and he spent a lot of time training me. He reached out to me and asked if I’d like to come join Gilbert Industries. And the rest is history.
What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?
Seeing some of the younger people I worked with for so long progress to be able to run a job on their own. It’s pretty neat to go out on a job with one of those guys and they’re running the show.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I’m not working, I like doing stuff around my farm, fishing, hunting, being outside usually. Pretty much anything outside.
What do you like most about working at Gilbert?
It’s been good working around people that are from the same area that I am from. It’s a small company with a family feel. I’ve got to go out in the field and see all kinds of manufacturing as far as food, beverages. Pretty neat stuff out there that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise like bottling plants, ice cream popsicles.
What are you most looking forward to over the next year?
Professionally: Seeing projects completed.
Personally: Spending time with my grandkids.
