Employee Spotlight: Michael Eisley, Engineering Coordinator

Employee Spotlight: Michael Eisley, Engineering Coordinator

As Engineering Coordinator at Gilbert Industries, what is a typical day like for you?

I usually try to be here by/before 7.  As Engineering Coordinator, I work in layout, so I work with everyone: purchasing, shop/field, sales, project management and designers. I take the 3D model and drawings and figure out the best way to layout and determine the ordering of the parts and pieces that make up a tank. Typically, there are several jobs going on at once, so to jump from project to project is expected.

How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?

I will have been at Gilbert Industries 7 awesome years on 05-25-23.

What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?

From the day to day work aspect, I really like the satisfaction of giving the shop/field everything they need to build a tank. I enjoy dissecting a set of drawings and calculating what all goes into it.

What is your educational and professional background before joining Gilbert?

I have worked in drafting and design since 1995. I received a diploma from Vatterott College in 1995 and worked as a designer from 1995-2002. I then taught drafting and design at Vatterott College from 2002-2008. I have worked in the tank industry from 2008 to currently.

What do you like most about working at Gilbert?

The people, no doubt about it. I love working here, I love being here. I am genuinely friends with a lot of the people I work with and for. Never once have I dreaded coming to work, or not looked forward to it. That’s a big deal and not everyone can say that. I have always said “if I were offered a job across the street from my house, making twice the money…I wouldn’t take it.” I am so fortunate to be here.  I was told when I was hired that Gilbert Industries is a family and it truly is. I have been treated so amazingly here.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I am an artist. I paint and I write. I am a motorcycle enthusiast and I love to travel. I go to Chicago 3-4 times a year to see my son, who is attending Northwestern Pritzker School of Law there.

What are you most looking forward to over the next year?

Professionally: I am looking forward to the continued growth and success of this company and just seeing it all happen with people who mean the world to me.

Personally: I am looking forward to seeing my son graduate and receive his law degree.
