Employee Spotlight: Daren Fitzpatrick, Engineering Layout/Pre-Processing Coordinator

 

As Engineering Layout/ Pre-processing Coordinator, what is a typical day like for you?

For me, it’s changed because I’ve recently transitioned into a new role. My new role now is in engineering layout.  I came from the shop floor which was in preprocessing. It was quite the change.

 

What do you like about your new role?

I like the problem solving, getting to see the other side, seeing where all the information comes from, how we derive it, where we get it. This a new, fun, exciting change.

 

What did you like about your previous role?

The hands on, working with people. It’s hard to say I did it for so long- for 30 years.

 

How long have you been at Gilbert Industries?

I’ve been at Gilbert Industries 21 years.

 

What part of the job do you find most fulfilling?

Probably just working with our people. It’s like one big family.  They’re amazing people, loving and caring.

 

What is your educational and professional background before joining Gilbert Industries?

My career path started in high school. I went to high school half a day and started at a local stainless steel business working from 12-5:30. I worked there until after high school and then made my way over to Gilbert Industries. All my training was on the job. I'm a big proponent that everyone can be successful no matter your educational background with hard work.

 

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I like to work, but when I’m not working, I run my own small business. We have a small cow/calf operation on 80 acres, we have an Airbnb, we have rental property in Springfield, and we have an ornamental iron business and art studio.

 

What are you most looking forward to over the next year?

Professionally: Continued learning and growth in my new position.

Personally: Finding some time to relax and enjoy life.
